Two Roads Family Therapy offers a variety of services for individuals, couples, and families to help provide clients with the tools necessary to maintain healthy families, marriages and relationships. The therapists on staff will work with each client to establish a distinct and personalized approach to explore the challenges they may be facing, and to determine goals to promote the changes they want to accomplish.
Our goal is to create a relaxed and supportive environment for clients that are struggling with an array of emotional and behavioral concerns, including parenting issues, depression, marital conflicts, and working through grief. Additionally, Robyn Mabe has completed a 10-month certificate program in play therapy and specializes in working with children of all ages.
Everyone experiences anxiety at various times in their life; it is a common human emotion that can be brought on by everyday events and circumstances. An anxiety disorder, however, is different in that it can produce feelings of fear, a sense of extreme uneasiness, and excessive worry. It may even begin to interfere with a person’s ability to function normally, to the extent that it can become a crippling and overwhelming factor in one’s life.
Having a bad day is a common experience…feeling sad, or down, or generally “depressed.” However, clinical depression is more than just feeling low. It is characterized by feeling sad and depressed for an extended period of time, maybe even for weeks or months on end. There is often a feeling of hopelessness, lack of energy or pleasure in activities, and an inability to feel motivation about doing anything, including getting out of bed, etc.
Everyone, adults and children alike, experiences grief. It may be through death of a loved one, or a major transition in one’s life, such as divorce, losing a job, or moving far away from friends and family. Grief is an individual emotion, and is expressed differently by each person. While one may choose to isolate and withdraw, another may react with anger and erratic behavior. Working through grief in therapy can help the individual learn ways to express their feelings, and to learn ways to cope through difficult times.

We recognize that children are not just small adults, and that they need therapy geared to where they are at developmentally. The use of play therapy techniques, as opposed to just traditional talk therapy, can provide a “language” for children to communicate their thoughts and feelings when they are unable to verbally articulate them. We work with families, as well as with the individual child or teen, to help navigate through the struggles that they are experiencing. When a child or teen has dealt with trauma, abuse, loss, or a difficult transition in their life, they may develop dysfunctional behavior or have difficulty coping with their emotions. Our therapists have specialized training to help your children receive the care they need to help them develop the social and emotional skills they need to be healthy and functioning young people.
Premarital counseling is a type of therapy that can help couples as they prepare for marriage. The goal is to assist the couple in recognizing areas of strengths and weaknesses in the relationship, and in establishing a stronger, healthier interaction that will increase the potential for a secure, stable marriage. The therapists at Two Roads Family Therapy are qualified facilitators for the Prepare-Enrich Program.
